78-year-old woman dead after 3-car Highway 401 crash in Mississauga

Police chase ends with charges for wanted man from Brampton, police say

A 78-year-old passenger in a vehicle involved in a three-car collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga Saturday night has died in hospital.

The Mississauga Detachment of the OPP were dispatched to a collision involving three motor vehicles on the eastbound collector lanes of Highway 401 near Mississauga Road on Saturday, just after8 p.m.

A 78-year-old woman from North York was taken to a trauma centre where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of that vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

All eastbound collector lanes of Highway 401 were closed at Mississauga Road for the investigation, with assistance from the OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement team. All lanes reopened around 4 a.m. on Sunday.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
