In a rather nutty turn of events, Waterloo Regional Police are actively investigating a peculiar theft of a transport truck and trailer from Wilmot Township which was loaded with pistachios.

On Jan. 20 around 9:30 p.m., police say suspects pilfered the nut-filled cargo from a business yard near Foundry Street and Gingerich Road.

The estimated value of the stolen pistachios is a whopping $70,000.

This marks the second recent occurrence of a nut-related vehicle heist in the region.

On Nov. 5, 2023, a transport truck and trailer filled with walnuts vanished from a business yard in the vicinity of Eagle Street North and Hespeler Road in Cambridge.

Police have not indicated whether these two incidents are connected.

Surveillance images or suspect descriptions are currently unavailable.

As authorities work to find the culprits involved in these unconventional thefts, anyone with information is urged to contact the police at 519-570-9777, extension 6399. For those preferring to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-222-8477.
