Now’s the time for Niagara residents to start bundling up the branches and twigs that have littered their lawns after a long winter.

Starting May 1 and running until May 26, Niagara Region will be picking up curbside branch bundles during their residents’ regularly-scheduled garbage and recycling pick-up. Branches should be curbside by 7 am.

The region provides the clean-up service twice a year – May and again in November – for all residents in single family homes and apartments with six units or less.

However, there is a criteria for what the waste collectors will pick up:

  • Branches must be tied into bundles using string or twine
  • Maximum weight of a bundle: 22.7 kg (50 lbs.)
  • Maximum size of a bundle: 1.5 m (5 ft.) in length, and 0.5 m (1.6 ft.) in diameter
  • Individual branches inside of a bundle must not exceed 7 cm (2.8 in.) in diameter

Stumps, large branches or limbs and tree trunks will not be collected at the curb but can be dropped off at any of these regional landfills year-round.
