5 Theme Parks to Road Trip to From Mississauga

May is the month theme parks open for the summer, and most adrenaline junkies are itching to ride some roller coasters and water slides.

A good theme park has something for everyone – kids, adults, thrill seekers, and even those who don’t like roller coasters. A better theme park breaks some records.

To get to a good theme park, you’ll have to make the drive. Here are five theme parks worth a road trip from Mississauga.

5. Great Wolf Lodge

An indoor water park and resort located in Niagara just over an hour away from Mississauga, Great Wolf Lodge is for family fun. With their four-story tall Canada Vortex, their 52-foot vertical drop Niagara Rapids Run, and their outdoor Loon Lagoon complete with games and slides, Great Wolf Lodge houses some excitement. When you’re ready to relax and slow down, their Whirlpool Hot Spas are worth a try, with one hot spa for adults only and one for families. 4. Darien Lake Amusement Park

Just over two hours away from Mississauga in New York, Darien Lake has 11 thrill rides including Slingshot, which launches you 300 feet in the air at 80 miles per hour. Darien Lake is decent for adrenaline junkies. They also have a waterpark, Splashtown, with about 10 attractions, but they’re definitely known more for their coasters.

3. Cedar Point

Located in Ohio, Cedar Point is the second largest amusement part in the U.S. With 17 roller coasters, 18 thrill rides, and 16 water park slides and attractions at Cedar Shores, Cedar Point has a lot to offer road trippers from Mississauga. Their Valravn roller coaster is said to be the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in the world – it drops you at a 90 degree angle! It’s about a five and a half hour drive from Brampton, but for thrill seekers, that’s nothing. And once you’ve ridden the Valravn and all of their other thrilling rides, you can relax on their mile-long stretch of beach beside Lake Erie.

2. Calypso Park

A four hour and 40 minute road trip from Mississauga in Ottawa, Calypso Park has something for everyone, including a wave pool with a capacity of 2,000, North America’s tallest waterslide tower, and a waterslide so intense that it’s literally called Adrenaline. They’ve even built a floating river called Jungle Run, where you can swim through a rainforest. For thrill seekers and families alike, Calypso is great for options, and to say that you’ve been to Canada’s biggest theme waterpark.

1. La Ronde

The furthest drive on this list at just over five and a half hours from Mississauga, La Ronde sits next door in the city of Montreal. The largest theme park in Quebec and the second largest in Canada, with 16 thrill rides and 14 family rides, plus kids rides and live entertainment, La Ronde houses some record breakers. Their one-of-a-kind roller coaster Le Monstre holds a Guinness World record as the largest two track wooden roller coaster in the entire world. It’s also the largest wooden roller coaster in Canada. And their ferris wheel, Grande Roue, is 45 metres high and provides a stunning view of the park. La Ronde is an internationally renowned theme park that’s sure to fit the expectations of any adrenaline junkie, and definitely worth the trip. You might even need two days to experience it all.

Bonus: Canada’s Wonderland

You’ve probably been there a hundred times, but about 40 minutes from Mississauga in Vaughan, we have Canada’s largest theme park. They boast a total of over 70 rides, including Splashworks and kids’ attractions.
