5 restaurant closures of 2022 in Mississauga

To say it was a tough few years for the restaurant industry would be an understatement in Mississauga.
As a result, many of us said goodbye to some beloved restaurants that have been around for years in Mississauga.
So, without further ado, here are five restaurant closures from 2022 in Mississauga.
Ombretta Cucina
Frank Mazzonetto and Anthony Maniccia opened Ombretta Cucina + Vino in Port Credit in 2017. Before that, the two chefs ran the Frankie Fettucine Food Truck.
In a post on Instagram, Mazzonetto announced the restaurant was sold.

“It’s a bittersweet feeling to tell you all the we have sold the business and our last service will be held on Saturday October 29th,” Mazzonetto wrote. “Ossobuco Gnocchi will be on the menu for the rest of the run! Thanks to all of our family and friends for the continued support! Come say bye!”
The Aielli-Alto restaurant, which was located on Lakeshore Rd. East in Port Credit officially closed its doors earlier this year.
The restaurant, which is remembered for hand-painted frescoes, its impressive wine cellar, kitchen and patio, has been serving Italian cuisine since 1973.
Captain Robin’s
Another Port Credit restaurant in Mississauga looks to have closed its doors for good.
Captain Robin’s Family Restaurant, located at 111 Lakeshore Road W, is permanently closed.
The popular restaurant served a variety of breakfast dishes, lunch and dinner options, and offered a “scary food challenge” where diners who were able to finish a large meal on their own within 45 minutes got their food for free.
At this time, the restaurant has not issued any formal statement on its closure via its website or social media.
Ambiance of India, which was located at 2157 Royal Windsor Dr. in Clarkson closed this year.
The restaurant, which featured a classic interior, a wood-panelled bar and Indian décor, was best known for serving various north Indian dishes such as tandoor cooked in a clay oven, Palak paneer, Daal makhani and butter chicken.
Holy Smokez BBQ
A homestyle American barbecue restaurant that has delivered tasty dishes to Mississauga residents and visitors to the city for the past decade is closing down permanently.
The owner of Holy Smokez BBQ, at 1133 Dundas St. E., near Stanfield Rd., says the family-run business simply isn’t able to afford what amounts to a doubling of the rent payments.
Owner Rick McAllister says the lease is up soon, so the restaurant will close for good at the end of April.
“It’s been a good run,” McAllister told insauga.com. “And I appreciate (our customers) being good patrons over the years.”
With an American barbecue style all their own, Holy Smokez built up a loyal customer base in Mississauga over the years.
“After over 40 years, we have modelled our own barbecue style to bring you a little taste from some of the most famous states like Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Louisiana,” owners said on their website prior to closing. “As a small family business, we work hard to bring you a true southern barbecue experience.”
