5 people in Hamilton now charged in Hess Village shooting

Two more people have been arrested in connection with a shooting in downtown Hamilton three months ago, which police said was targeted.

That brings the tally of people facing charges in the attack to five. At 1 p.m. on Oct. 23, on a Sunday afternoon, officers from Hamilton Police (HPS) responded to a shooting inside a residence in the area of George and Caroline streets in the Hess Village district. An 18-year-old male was found with gunshot wounds, which proved to be non-life-threatening.

Noah Alexander Mervyn Sheridan, age 20, who had been facing an arrest warrant since the week of the attack, was arrested and charged by HPS on Jan. 18. The police also arrested Dustin Alexander Curran, 24, on Thursday (Jan. 26).

Sheridan faces the following charges:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Use of a firearm in commission of an offence
  • Pointing a firearm in commission of an offence
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to order (two counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited loaded firearm
  • Failure to comply with terms of probation (four counts)

Curran faces seven criminal counts:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Use firearm in commission of an offence
  • Pointing firearm in commission of an offence
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited loaded firearm

The day after the shooting, 22-year-old Malachi Oratio Alleyne-Smart was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. On Oct. 25, two days after the attack, a 17-year-old female and a 19-year-old woman, Heather Nicole Raymond Couroux, were also arrested and charged.
