There is no moment like one that’s caught on video and immortalized on the internet forever—and Mississauga had a lot of those this year.

In 2019, there was a mix of unfortunate and memorable moments that were caught on video in Mississauga — the incredible celebration at Jurassic Park West when the Raptors clinched the finals, marauding cows, a squirrel in a grocery store and a memorable encounter with a would-be robber.

But some moments stood out to inSauga readers more than others.

Here are the most-watched “CAUGHT ON VIDEO” moments in Mississauga this year, so you can catch them again.

5) Cows rounded up after getting onto the highway in Mississauga

In the late evening hours of March 29, a cattle truck collided with the cement barrier on Highway 401, stopping traffic and unleashing a herd of cows onto the highway. A short time later, the OPP released video footage of a group of cows being rounded up following the collision. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said that the driver of the cattle truck was charged with careless driving. Sadly, 12 cows were killed in the crash.

4) Woman attacked by a squirrel in Mississauga store

You don’t expect to see a squirrel when shopping in a store, and you really don’t expect it to lunge at you when you admonish it for trying to eat some delicious cookies it had no intention of paying for. In July, CityNews shared a video depicting the hilarious and borderline terrifying moment that a hungry black squirrel decided to fight for its right to eat cookies undisturbed.

The video, which CityNews shared on YouTube, was submitted to the news outlet by Sharon Kwok.

3) Mississauga storeowner fends off a thief with bananas

On Saturday, Feb. 2, an attempted robbery was thwarted when a convenience store owner successfully fended off a suspect with a banana. That’s right, a banana. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., Peel police announced that an attempted robbery occurred at A&J Convenience, which is located in the Hurontario and John Street area. According to police, the male suspect fled the scene after Seungae Kim and another worker defended themselves by striking the suspect with a banana.

2) Cars spotted driving the wrong way on Mississauga highway

The freezing rain that pummelled the GTA on Sunday, Dec. 1 wasn’t easy for anyone to navigate, but some drivers seemingly used the weather as an excuse to flout basic (and crucially important) road rules. The day of the storm, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt tweeted out a video of multiple vehicles pulling u-turns near a construction zone on the 403 in Mississauga.

“Very dangerous driving behaviour on [highway] 403 this morning,” Schmidt tweeted.

“Drivers going the wrong way into oncoming traffic through a construction zone. This is very confusing for other motorists and could have resulted in serious collisions.”

1) Crazy celebrations break out in Mississauga when Raptors win the NBA Finals

On June 13, 2019, the Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors 114 – 110, making them the 2019 NBA Champions for the first in the team’s history. After that thrilling win, the city of Mississauga erupted with excitement. If you weren’t able to make it out to Jurassic Park West at Celebration Square that historic night, here’s what it looked like:
