5 - Hinote Sushi
It's a small gem hidden in a residential plaza by Mavis and Bristol. If you want to try it during your lunch break, get there before noon because there is a daily and loyal lunch rush. Although Hinote is a touch pricier than other sushi restaurants, it is worth it and you get what you pay for. One of my all time favorite Japanese dishes is a spicy salmon roll/hand roll and Hinote does it so well. The presentation is beautiful. The taste is a melody in my mouth and incorporates the savory flavour of their special hot sauce, the crunchiness of the bits of tempura and the soft freshness of the raw salmon. It's literally an explosion of opposing textures that just works so well.
4 - Michael's Back Door
Before we start talking about the food and the restaurant, we've got to say that we love the name and where Michael's is located. The setup is so unlike anything else in Mississauga, as it is located at the back of a building in Clarkson off Lakeshore Road and is almost a secret because it's completely hidden from public view. As you park in the back alley, you will find a glass solarium protruding from the back. It's almost like you are walking into a secret location. We tried the risotto pescatore which had risotto with shrimp, scallops, fresh tomatoes and white wine (as seen below) and it was some of the best risotto we've had. The shrimp were huge, the seafood was plentiful and the rice was perfectly cooked. The server was very pleasant and knowledgeable and gave recommendations, as any good server should. This isn't a big place, so make reservations -- especially on Friday and Saturday nights. This would be a perfect place for a date and they even have a piano room that can accommodate 40 people, which is great for a corporate dinner. They recently introduced a wine room for up to 16, which is great for family parties when you just don't want to cook at home. Michael's is expanding so much that it might have a front door one day. Also, Michael's Back Door has been around since 1981, so you know they're doing something right.
3 - Border MX
This new place has garnered a lot of attention since it opened because Mississauga doesn't have many authentic Mexican joints. The chef is from Mexico, so she knows her stuff and makes truly authentic dishes in her Mexican kitchen. The menu offers traditional Mexican dishes, including fajitas, tamales, flautas and pork carnitas. Friday and Saturday nights are reserved for Chef Rico's regional Mexican specials such as Tongue Tacos (self-explanatory) and Pozole (a soup made of pork or chicken broth with hominy and other garnishes). We tried he pork and fish tacos and they were both delicious, as you can see from the picture.

Imagine you've been whisked away to a Queen West bar. Since it opened, this place has been crazy. Even on weeknights, when other bars in the area are dead, this place is busting at the seams with people and with good reason. Get ready to be amazed. Every aspect of this place — including the space and menu — has been designed with the utmost thought to detail. Although the food menu is only about five per cent of entire menu (there are only 13 items), you will find interesting takes on southern classics, such as chicken and waffles, Rub Me the Right Way beef brisket, Boars Gone Wild smoked sausage, bison chipotle frank, blackened shrimp and gumbo cheddar grits and the boss platter (BBQ sampler platter). All of meat is smoked with SmokinLicious' cherry wood and sugar maple wood chips, which "gives a nice sweetness to meat."

Roman Zaman captivates you with an extra-sensory experience from the moment you step into the restaurant. It wows you with the vibrant palate of colours and contrasting prints and materials and the Middle Eastern music that invites you into the space. Food Menu: The Damascene cuisine menu includes both traditional dishes and modern takes on Middle Eastern cuisine and includes a number of cold and hot starters such as yalanji (vine leaves stuffed with rice, tomatoes, parsley, mint, olive oil, pomegranate molasses, tomato paste, onions, and crushed bell peppers), kibbehnayeh (raw meat dish includes habra meat, crushed bulgur wheat and spices), muhammara (mixture of breadcrumbs, pomegranate molasses, olive oil and walnuts) and chili potatoes (grilled potatoes, olive oil, garlic, parsley and coriander).You will also find soups, salads, shawarma platters, saj (middle eastern flatbrad) and sandwiches on the menu. The kibbeh section of the menu includes beef, potatoes or helah (fried or grilled). The grilled portion of the menu includes charcoal grilled skewers (beef and chicken) known as shish tawook and kebabs. Last but not least, there are four desserts on the menu, including knafeh (knafeh paste/rice flour paste, cheese, simple syrup, ghee and pistachios), rice pudding, muhalabiah (simple pudding made with milk, flavoured with mastic and garnished with pistachios and honey) and Roman Zaman fruit mix.
