5 - Blue Lagoon Seafood Master

Located at the Chinese Centre on Dundas Street is Blue Lagoon Seafood Master (you gotta love that name!), a higher-end Chinese food and dim sum restaurant. As you walk in, you are greeted by a wall full of sea creatures that are at your disposal to eat fresh. You will see everything from huge Alaskan king crabs to lobsters to eel to fresh fish swimming in blue tanks. This place is absolutely massive and can easily seat 250 people. There are four huge projection screens that were teaching diners how to properly cook Chinese food. We tried the set dinner for two which came with braised blue lagoon soup, eel that was freshly skinned for us minutes before, deep-fried lobster Hong Kong-style, oysters, lobster soup, fish soup and dessert for $98. Although this dinner was made for two, it could have easily fed three. This place is a bit on the pricey side, but the food is very high quality and flavourful. The dim sum is costly as well, but the menu items are a little higher-end. As you can tell by the name, this place does specialize in seafood but does have some traditional non-seafood dishes like Peking duck and sweet and sour pork.

4 - Goodfellas

Once you walk in, you can tell this place did not spare a dime. It looks like you are walking into a rustic Italian home to have some authentic Italian grub. Goodfellas In Streetsville is Mississauga’s very first restaurant offering authentic Neapolitan wood oven pizza. The menu offers authentic Romano pizza and homemade pastas which are all freshly made in-house. The Maccheroni alla Carbonara pasta dish includes pancetta, egg yolks, pecorino romano, and black pepper. The menu also includes appetizers, salads, fish and meat entrees and desserts. The mozzarealla di bufala and parmigiano-reggiano cheeses are some of the ingredients they use that are directly imported from Italy. Goodfellas boasts an extensive Italian wine selection which was specifically chosen to pair beautifully with the dishes on the menu. This place has a small patio that overlooks the new Streetsville Square, so if you are lucky enough you can catch a free show from your seat. Check out the new oyster bar while you are there.

3 - Michael's Back Door

Before we start talking about the food and the restaurant, we've got to say that we love the name and where Michael's is located. The setup is so unlike anything else in Mississauga, as it is located at the back of a building in Clarkson off Lakeshore Road and is almost a secret because it's completely hidden from public view. As you park in the back alley, you will find a glass solarium protruding from the back. It's almost like you are walking into a secret location. We tried the risotto pescatore which had risotto with shrimp, scallops, fresh tomatoes and white wine (as seen below) and it was some of the best risotto we've had. The shrimp were huge, the seafood was plentiful and the rice was perfectly cooked. The server was very pleasant and knowledgeable and gave recommendations, as any good server should. This isn't a big place, so make reservations -- especially on Friday and Saturday nights. This would be a perfect place for a date and they even have a piano room that can accommodate 40 people, which is great for a corporate dinner. They recently introduced a wine room for up to 16, which is great for family parties when you just don't want to cook at home. Michael's is expanding so much that it might have a front door one day. Also, Michael's Back Door has been around since 1981, so you know they're doing something right.

2 - Kravingz

Lissa Genobaga and Damian Kubarski are a husband and wife team who are self-proclaimed foodies and steadfast local supporters who love their community in Clarkson - an undiscovered area of the city which has a number of gems including theirs - a new brunch spot called Kravingz. Unique for: Made-from-scratch menu which supports local suppliers. They source a number of the ingredients for their dishes from local bakeries and suppliers such as Manila Bakery's specialty - a Filipino bread roll known as pandesal, produce from A.J. Lanzarotta, and other ingredients from Truscott Bakery and Sheridan Meats. Signature Dish: The Flip Side (house made longanisa which is a Filipino sausage served with crunchy garlic rice and a fried egg), The Polski Benedict (potato placki is a Polish potato pancake served with smoked salmon or peameal bacon, poached eggs and house made hollandaise), Chicken N' Waffles (crispy fried chicken served with bacon and jalapeno waffles, bacon dressing and coleslaw) and The Islander (jerk corned beef hash, corn and cheddar grits and poached eggs) are so far the most popular.

1 - Door FiftyFive

Imagine you've been whisked away to a Queen West bar. Since it opened just over two weeks ago, this place has been crazy. Even on weeknights, when other bars in the area are dead, this place is busting at the seams with people and with good reason. Get ready to be amazed. Every aspect of this place — including the space and menu — has been designed with the utmost thought to detail. Although the food menu is only about five per cent of entire menu (there are only 13 items), you will find interesting takes on southern classics, such as chicken and waffles, Rub Me the Right Way beef brisket, Boars Gone Wild smoked sausage, bison chipotle frank, blackened shrimp and gumbo cheddar grits and the boss platter (BBQ sampler platter). All of meat is smoked with SmokinLicious' cherry wood and sugar maple wood chips, which "gives a nice sweetness to meat."
