The Streetsville-area home where former Mississauga mayor and Canadian political icon Hazel McCallion lived for nearly four decades has been on the market for 43 days with no signs yet of a firm buyer.

The Charnwood Cres. home, which was listed on April 17 at just under $3 million ($2.99 million), is described as a “once in a lifetime signature property” and, fittingly, offers a stunning backyard view of the impressive Mississauga skyline “Hurricane Hazel” helped create during her 36 years at the helm.

Prior to her death on Jan. 29 at the age of 101, McCallion had lived in the two-storey detached home for some 36 years, part of that time spent with her husband, Sam, who died in 1997.

The listing by Hodgins Realty Group, which appears on Realtor.ca, notes that it’s a stunning, iconic, four-bedroom, three-bathroom home with an in-ground pool and cherished gardens “befitting our beloved Hurricane Hazel,” a reference to the former mayor’s widely known moniker.

Referring to the near-half-acre, well-manicured property as “breathtaking,” the listing goes on to describe the home as featuring a “dignitary-worthy vaulted great room” and a six-car driveway.

Within a short stroll of river trails, schools, shops and dining, the impressive home is updated throughout and “move-in ready.”
