A Hwy. 401 crash in Mississauga left a car horribly mangled and the driver transported to hospital.

A 40-year-old driver smashed into the back of a transport truck that was stopped for traffic congestion ahead in the westbound collector lanes of Hwy. 401 near Mavis Road, the OPP said in a tweet on Sept. 2.

“Driver lucky to be alive,” OPP said.

He was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The transport truck driver was not hurt.

The overnight crash closed all westbound collectors lanes between Mavis Road and Mississauga Road while crews worked. They have since re-opened.

As of Sept. 2, 229 people have been killed in road collisions this year on OPP patrolled roadways. That’s a 29 per cent increase over last year.
