There were about 300 collisions across the GTA in the last 24 hours including two multiple-vehicle crashes on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga and Milton.

The winter storm left roads slick and icy likely leading to crashes this morning (Jan. 26).

Early this morning, a six-car crash closed the Hwy. 401 eastbound ramp to Dixie Road in Mississauga, OPP said in a tweet around 7 a.m.  There were only minor injuries in the crash.

“You can see the roads are still covered in snow and slush,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a tweet.

The crash was one of many this morning.

“We have got about 25 crashes on the go, as we speak,” Schmidt said.

But in the last 24 hours there were about 300 crashes across the GTA, he added.

A transport truck was on fire in a multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 401 and James Snow Parkway in Milton, OPP said in a tweet around 7:30 a.m.

All eastbound lanes were blocked. A short time later, police updated that the fire was out and two lanes reopened.

The crash involved two transport trucks and two cars. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

The roads are still slippery, Schmidt added.

“Drive in control, give yourself lots of space, avoid this kind of a mess,” he said.
