Movie lovers in Mississauga, Brampton and the rest of Canada can soon catch a film for very cheap.
Theatres across the country plan to celebrate “National Cinema Day” this weekend on Saturday, Sept. 3 with movie ticket prices discounted to $3 plus tax.
More than 3,000 theatres in Canada and the U.S. will be participating in the one-day event, including popular theatres such as Cineplex, Cinemas Guzzo, Cinemas Cine Entreprise, Imagine Cinemas, Landmark, Magic Lantern Theatres.
Cineplex is already allowing customers to book $3 tickets via their website for “any movie, any experience, any showtime.”
A number of local independent theatres will also be participating. So far, three independent theatres in Ontario have confirmed that they’ll have $3 tickets on Saturday:
- The Westdale in Hamilton
- Film.ca Cinema in Oakville
- Hyland Cinema in London
National Cinema Day is organized in part by the Movie Theatre Association of Canada (MTAC) and The Cinema Foundation.
“After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing,” said The Cinema Foundation President Jackie Brenneman.
“We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen, and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.”
