3 dead after crash on highway in Ontario

Three people are now dead after a crash on a highway in Ontario last week, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said it happened Wednesday on Highway 17 near Prairie River, west of Marathon, in northern Ontario.

Two vehicles were involved: an SUV and a stationary construction vehicle, OPP said.

A 58-year-old man from Marathon who was standing outside of the construction vehicle was injured and pronounced dead in hospital the same day.

A passenger who was inside of the SUV — an 80-year-old woman from Terrace Bay — died in hospital on Thursday.

And on Monday, the driver of the SUV — a 79-year-old man from Terrace Bay — died as a result of injuries from the crash.

“No further injuries outside of the three individuals were reported,” OPP said.

“As the investigation is ongoing, I can not speak to what caused the collision,” police added.

“Further to that, as all individuals involved are deceased, there are no charges pending currently.”

Any witnesses or anyone with video footage from the area at the time of the crash was asked to come forward.
