Five men face numerous charges after a trailer loaded with $2 million in stolen cannabis was found in the north end of Mississauga near Highway 401 earlier this month.

Four of those arrested are from Brampton while the fifth man is from Hamilton, York Regional Police said in revealing details of the April 15 discovery in the area of McLaughlin Road and the busy highway.

Two illegal firearms were also found after the discovery of the trailer, which had earlier been reported stolen from the Niagara area, police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Investigators with the York police auto cargo theft squad seized the goods after coming across the trailer while in the area.

Subsequent investigation determined the large amount of cannabis products was to have been delivered to numerous dispensaries before the trailer theft, police said.

While investigating the stolen trailer, officers located several men nearby who were allegedly associated to the vehicle, police added.

During the arrests, officers also found two firearms.

Police said the investigation continues as they believe there may be additional victims.

Anyone with information is asked to call the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6651, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
