Peel Regional Police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old with multiple criminal offences in connection to a drive-by shooting in Mississauga from this past summer, which left a man with gunshot wounds.

On May 29, police say the suspect was involved in a drive-by-style shooting in the area of Matheson Boulevard East and Satellite Drive.

According to investigators, the incident happened around 4 a.m., while the victim— a 27-year-old man from Durham— was standing outside a complex when he was shot in the leg. His injuries were non-life-threatening.

Subsequently, the suspect fled the area in a silver coloured vehicle, police say.

Authorities have not disclosed if the suspect and victim are known to each other.

On Saturday (Dec. 9) nearly six months after the incident, law enforcement located and arrested the suspect.

Jathusan Akilan (25) from York Region is charged with multiple offences which include attempted murder, discharging a firearm with the intent to wound, maim, or disfigure and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Police say Akilan was in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
