UPDATE (6:35 a.m.): The Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway in Hamilton has opened all lanes
A 24-year-old woman died following a collision on the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway in Hamilton on Wednesday evening, police say.
Hamilton Police said the collision occurred at approximately 6:56 p.m. on July 8 near Upper James Street.
According to investigators, a blue Honda Civic was travelling eastbound on the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway when it collided with a red Buick Allure that was towing a small utility trailer.
Police said both vehicles lost control following the initial collision. The Honda Civic then crossed the grass median into the westbound lanes, where it was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The 24-year-old female driver of the Honda Civic, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Buick was occupied by a driver and one passenger. Police said neither person was injured. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was the sole occupant of that vehicle, was also uninjured.
The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway remains closed in both directions in the area of Upper James Street and is expected to remain closed for several more hours while investigators complete their examination of the scene.
Current road closures include:
- Eastbound LINC closed at Upper James Street, including the eastbound on-ramp at Upper James Street.
- Westbound LINC traffic is being diverted at Upper Wentworth Street.
- Westbound on-ramps at Upper James Street, Upper Wentworth Street and Gage Avenue closed.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area, expect significant delays and use alternate routes until the roadway can be safely reopened.
Hamilton Police extended their condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash camera footage from the area around the time of the collision to contact the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4753.
Police said further information will be released as it becomes available.
