An outbreak of COVID-19 at an Ontario dairy facility has resulted in one death at this time.

York Region Public Health (YRPH) was notified on April 29 of a confirmed case at Saputo Dairy Products, a Canadian Food and Inspection Agency designated facility in Vaughan.

As of May 8, the region reports 24 confirmed cases and one death.

Six of the confirmed cases, including the deceased case, are York residents.

The facility is closed to the public and is not producing food at this location.

Public Health says it’s is ongoing consultation with the organization on updates/new cases.

“All COVID-19 prevention precautions are in place including PPE for staff, staff screening, hand sanitizer, physical distancing throughout the warehouse, reduced staff complement, updated sick policy and enhanced cleaning of high touch surfaces,” said YRPH.

“Referred to Ministry of Labour and they have followed up with the company. This is a standard approach when there is an occupational exposure.”
