Oshawa man charged with drug and firearm offences in Mississauga

An Oshawa man has been charged with firearm offences after his vehicle was stopped in Mississauga and searched by police under the Cannabis Control Act — where a handgun was recovered and seized during the investigation.

On Saturday (May. 27) shortly after 1 a.m., Peel Regional Police (PRP) stopped a vehicle in the area of Anson Dr/ Torbram Rd in Mississauga.

Police say the driver was investigated under the Cannabis Control Act which resulted in the seizure of a semi-automatic Glock handgun.

Rodrico Vassell, 22, is charged with drug and several firearm-related offences including the possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
