The yard waste collection program has started again in Oakville.

From now until the second week in December, curbside yard waste will be picked up…if you follow all the rules.

Most importantly, only proper yard waste bags or labelled, reusable, rigid containers with no lids can be used. Yard waste labels must be placed on the reusable container or it won’t be picked up. Other containers such as blue box, laundry baskets and non-paper bags will not be picked up.

The bags and containers should only be put on the curb no sooner than one day prior to collection and must not weight more than 50 lbs.

Acceptable materials in the containers are leaves, twigs, small tree trimmings, decorative cornstalks, fallen fruit from trees, yard and garden trimmings, and pumpkins. Large brush must be tied in bundles.

Unacceptable items include tree stumps, sod, soil, clay, rocks, plastic bags, plastic flower pots and tags, giant hogweed and grass clippings.
