For the third year in a row, a beloved Hamilton street festival has been cancelled due to the pandemic.

On Wednesday (April 6), the Downtown Dundas BIA Board of Management announced that the 2022 Dundas International Buskerfest will not be taking place this June.

“It has become evident that the work involved in planning, organizing, and operating the Buskerfest event is significant enough to cause concern around the risk and possible investment loss of time and money,” the BIA said in a social media post announcing the decision.

“Due to the rescinding of previous provincial and local health and safety mandated restrictions only a mere couple of weeks ago, it is late in the planning process to begin booking acts and organizing the execution of a significant street festival by early June.”

The notice goes on to explain that administrative shortages at the BIA this winter have also made it difficult to even begin the early planning stages for the event.

The annual three-day festival traditionally held in June, featuring live performers, vendors and delicious eats from near and very far, has attracted tens of thousands of people to the main street of downtown Dundas for years now.

This will be the third year in a row that COVID-19 has forced the festival’s cancellation.

“The health and safety of our community, our BIA members, merchants and their staff, the visitors, vendors, performers, volunteers and festival support staff is our prime concern,” Wednesday’s notice said.

“Therefore, after careful consideration, the Board of Management for the Downtown Dundas BIA has made the difficult decision to announce the cancellation of the 2022 Dundas International Buskerfest for another year.”
