Protestors arrested after officer assaulted at pro-Palestine demonstration, Brampton man charged

A driver who had fled the scene after being involved in a collision in Brampton two years ago, which resulted in one fatality, turned himself into police last week.

On Nov. 5 (2021)  an officer from the Mississauga OPP attempted to stop an erratic black vehicle near Highway 410 and Sandalwood Parkway.

However, despite police pursuit, the driver failed to stop and sped away.

According to police, the same driver was involved in a two-vehicle crash a short distance away, with a red car at the intersection of Sandalwood Parkway and Dixie Road.

The 21-year-old woman who was driving the red vehicle was reported dead at the scene.

On Jan. 9 (2024) nearly two years after the incident, Harkamalpreet Singh surrendered to OPP in Kenora, Ont.

Police say, the 27-year-old man and resident of Winnipeg has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation causing death, flight from a peace officer and failing to stop at an accident resulting in death.

The investigations are ongoing and includes officers from the Ontario Provincial Police, Peel Regional Police, and the Ministry of the Attorney General.

Singh is scheduled to appear in Brampton court next month.

More information to follow as it becomes available.
