Police are seeking witnesses to an early-morning collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga last week that sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.

Ontario Provincial Police said an initial crash took place on July 6 around 1:45 a.m. in the westbound express lanes of Highway 401 just before the split to Highway 403.

That collision resulted in several vehicles blocking live left lanes of traffic, police said, adding a number of people involved had stepped out of their vehicles.

“As officers were responding (to the first collision), a secondary collision occurred” as people were standing outside their vehicles and were struck when another car crashed into the disabled vehicles, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a post to X.

Two people who were standing outside their vehicle were seriously injured and taken to hospital, police said.

“If you travelled in that area around that time and have dashcam footage” or witnessed the collision, Schmidt said, call police at 905-858-8670.
