Two separate early morning New Year’s Day crashes led to impaired charges in Caledon.

In the first crash, two vehicles collided on Mayfield Road near Chinguacousy Road just before 1 a.m., OPP said in a press release.

Tyler Currie, 39, from Georgetown, was charged with driving while impaired with alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol over the legal limit, driving without a licence or insurance, police said.

Shortly after that collision, at 1:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to Olde Base Line Road near Mountainside Road for a single motor vehicle collision, police said.

An off-duty officer came across the collision and stopped to help.

A short time later, on-duty officers arrived and charged one person.

Arul Pararajasingam, 48, from Caledon, was charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol over the legal limit, driving while under suspension, and driving without insurance.

Both accused are scheduled to appear in Orangeville Provincial Court in January 2024.

There were no injuries in the collisions, OPP said.
