Just days before a $2 million lottery prize was set to expire in Ontario, the winning ticket was validated.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation said earlier this month that the jackpot prize from the Sept. 28, 2024 Ontario 49 draw remained unclaimed and was about to expire.
Winners have one year from the draw date to claim their prize.
The OLG said the ticket that matched six out of six numbers for the draw was sold in Brampton. They encouraged anyone who thought that they may have purchased the ticket to come forward.
And sure enough, the OLG said they may have found their winner, with the ticket having been checked just in time.
“The ticket was validated at a retail location a few days before the expiry date,” OLG spokesperson Tony Bitonti told INsauga.com on Monday.
“The claimant is now waiting to go through the prize claim review process like all ticket holders of $1,000 or (more) have to do.”
It’s not clear why exactly it took so long for the winning ticket to be checked.
But Bitonti said the story will be revealed once the prize claims process is finished.
