2 locations of the same Jewish-owned bakery damaged overnight: Toronto police

Toronto police are investigating after two locations of the same Jewish-owned bakery chain were damaged overnight.

Police say the window of a bakery was struck by gunfire in the area of Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West.

At another bakery location in the area of Bathurst Street and Steeles Avenue West, police say a window was broken.

Police say there was no evidence of gunfire at the second location and no injuries were reported.

At a news conference Sunday morning, Duty Inspector Scott Bradbury said police understand the two incidents are concerning for members of the Jewish community.

Bradbury said Toronto police’s hate crimes division and guns and gangs task force are investigating.

The officer added that it’s unclear when the two bakeries were damaged but the incidents were reported Sunday morning after employees arrived for work.

Police are asking anyone with information or footage to come forward and Bradbury said local residents can expect an increased police presence in the areas as the investigation continues.
