A storage container left sealed with two cats inside prompted the City of Mississauga to remind people of shelter programs and resources.

The container was left outside the Mississauga Animal Services shelter at 735 Central Parkway West on Dec. 26, a city spokesperson tells insauga.com

“Mississauga Animal Services found a tightly sealed storage container with two terrified cats covered in their waste,” the city posted on Facebook.

“The container had no air holes and was left outside the shelter.”

The cats are now safe and getting much-needed love and attention.

But the city wants to prevent situations like this from happening.

They suggest anyone struggling to provide care or a loving home for a pet, contact Animal Services.

“The shelter has programs and resources in place that can help.”

The Home to Home program, for example, is a free service to get a pet re-homed. There are no fees involved and a pet can avoid a stay at a shelter. People can also contact Mississauga Animal Services at 905-896-5858 ext. 2 for more information on how to surrender a pet.

For more information, visit the Mississauga Animal Services website.

The Mississauga Humane Society also takes in pets.
