Two Brampton musicians took home Juno awards on the weekend.
Jessica Reyez, who graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Brampton, took home a Juno for Rap Single of the Year for Shut Up. Reyez praised the many chances she has had coming up as a Canadian kid in this “beautiful rainbow.”
Born in Toronto to Colombian parents, Reyez’s father introduced her to the guitar. She began writing her own music in high school.
Brampton reggae musician Exco Levi took home Reggae Recording of the Year for Born to Be Free.
Born in Manchester, and raised in Jamaica, Exco Levi moved to Canada in 2005. Now based in Brampton, Levi is an Arts Walk Fame inductee and records his songs in his home studio. This is his sixth Juno award.
