$16 million lottery was won in this city in Canada

An Ontario woman got an unexpected birthday windfall.

Recently, OLG announced that Darlene M., a retiree who lives in Cavan, a township outside of Peterborough, “found her possible” after winning a Lotto 6/49 prize worth $16 millionin the Gold Ball Draw on May 30, 2026.

On her birthday, she checked her ticket, not expecting a huge win.

“I checked it using the OLG app and ran inside the house to tell my sister right away,” Darlene, 63, told OLG.

“I had to make sure what I was seeing was real. I was shocked! It’s hard to wrap my head around this. I shared the news with the rest of my family, and they were all also in shock and disbelief.”

Darlene told OLG she plans to put her winnings toward paying some bills, purchasing a new truck, and helping her children purchase a home.

“I’d also like to support animal welfare initiatives that are important to me,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Giant Tiger on Lansdowne Street West in Peterborough.
