For one retail worker, purchasing a lottery ticket has made her an immediate winner, as Gurleen Puri of Brampton has walked away with over $150,000 after taking second place in the Lotto Max draw.

According to Lotto Max, Puri — a relatively new lottery player — has wondered if a ‘regular person’ like her could win for some time. Little did she know, after throwing her hat into a Lotto Max draw last month, that she’d be walking away with more than she anticipated.

“We were so surprised, we drove home in silence and needed a nap to recover,” said Puri in an official statement. “I always used to wonder what it was like to win when I would see winners in the news. I would wonder if they were regular people like me. Now it is me! I am so thankful and happy.”

Puri and her husband were shopping in a local mall at the time of the discovery, as while she busy browsing, her husband checked the ticket when the winning numbers were announced.

“When I came out of a store, I saw the look on his face and he told me to come see for myself. When I saw the ‘Big Winner’ screen, I was shocked,” said Puri in an official statement.

Puri and her husband plan to celebrate their winnings by taking a vacation as soon as possible.

Lotto Max is $5 per play and draws occur on both Tuesdays and Fridays. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at ESSO on Remembrance Road in Brampton.
