A 15-year-old boy is facing assault charges after a tax driver was threatened by his passenger in Oshawa Sunday afternoon.
Durham Police say an officer was approached by the cabbie at 5:40 p.m. Sunday near Ritson Road and Bloor Street, who told him he was approaching his destination when his passenger brandished what the victim believed was a gun in his waistband, and made threats. The teenager then fled the vehicle.
A Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (drone) was dispatched to the area and located the suspect, who took off on foot when he saw police. Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.
A search revealed a large knife tucked into his waistband.
A 15-year-old from Oshawa is charged with assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and uttering threats.
He was held for a bail hearing.
