A 14-year-old boy faces charges after a BB gun was seized at a Brampton school.

The charges come after Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary School went into a hold-and-secure for a weapons call at approximately 10:30 a.m. yesterday (March 9), Peel Regional Police said in a press release today.

Police arrested a young person inside the school, and the BB gun was seized, police said.

There were no reports of injuries, police said.

A 14-year-old boy from Brampton was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The teen can not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He was released with conditions and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a future date.

The incident comes in a turbulent week for Peel schools. Threats have been issued against seven schools in Mississauga and Brampton, claiming someone will “shoot them up” today (March 10).

But at this time, police believe the incident at Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary School is an isolated event. There is no evidence to suggest that this is related to any other recent school incidents, police said.
