A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection to an assault involving a woman that took place at a shopping mall in Brampton.

On Monday (Oct. 23) at approximately 8:30 p.m., Peel Regional Police say a 23-year-old woman—a resident of Brampton—was inside a shopping mall near Queen Street and Central Park Drive when she was confronted by a teen who reportedly accused her of filming him.

Despite the victim’s efforts to distance herself, the suspect allegedly slapped her phone out of her hand and proceeded to assault her, which resulted in minor injuries, police say.

On Friday (Dec. 8) officers located and arrested the 14-year-old Brampton resident allegedly responsible for the offence.

Authorities say the boy is facing assault charges, although the exact charges haven’t been disclosed. He is scheduled for a court appearance in Brampton at a later date.

Investigators are thanking residents for their help in the identification of the teen, while, in adherence to the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) the name of the young person involved will be protected and not shared with the public.

Anyone with further information or who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, extension 2133.
