14-year-old arrested after shooting in neighbourhood north of Toronto

Road closed and multiple people sent to hospital after collision in Burlington

A 14-year-old boy was arrested yesterday (July 4) concerning a fatal shooting that occurred in North York last week. 

According to local authorities, on June 24, 2024, around midnight, police responded to a call regarding a shooting near Jane Street and Flagstaff Avenue. 

Police indicate that at the time of the incident, an SUV entered the area where four suspects were then seen exiting the vehicle armed with firearms. The official report indicates that several shots were fired which was followed by all four suspects fleeing the scene in their vehicle. 

The victim of the shooting, 20-year-old Ajay Simpson, was rushed to hospital when paramedics arrived but later died from gunshot-related injuries. 

According to a recent report from the Toronto Police Service, yesterday, officers announced they arrested a 14-year-old male suspect in connection to the homicide. 

The individual — who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act — was taken into custody and charged with one count of first-degree murder. 

He was scheduled for a court appearance earlier this morning. 

At the time of publication, no further details on the incident and its corresponding arrest have been provided by local authorities.
