Thirteen more pop-up vaccination clinics are planned for Brampton with some launching as early as next week.

Dr. Lawrence Loh, Peel Region’s Medical Officer of Health, confirmed that 13 new pop-ups are in the works to complement the mass vaccination clinics already in place and to reach vulnerable communities.

Pop-ups that will be available to Brampton residents possibly as soon as next week include the Ontario Khalsa Darbar on Dixie Rd., Roots Community Services at Bramalea Civic Centre on Central Park Dr., and the Malton Masjid on Airport Rd.

Specific details concerning the operating procedures at these temporary pop-up locations have not yet been released.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said the city could accommodate “a hundred more” pop-up clinics but quickly added the limited number of vaccines still prevents the program from reaching all corners of the community.

“But I am optimistic,” Brown said. “We should expect to see some activity on this front from April 30 to May 11 with these clinics.”

While the clinics have come under scrutiny because of the long wait times to book appointments and the limited number of bookings available, Dr. Loh stressed that mass vaccination sites are still the cornerstone of the delivery system.

“There are inherent limitations to the pop-ups,” Dr. Loh explained. “They are meant to be targeted to specific communities. They have very small capacity compared to what we can do at the mass immunization clinics.”

He said to accommodate those who work during the day the Save Max Sports Centre location will open earlier at 7 a.m. next week and in the following week this mass vaccination site will extend hours to 11 p.m.
