A major redevelopment project that will more than double the size of an existing long-term care home is moving ahead in Mississauga, adding more than 130 new beds as Ontario faces growing demand for senior care.

Sienna Senior Living announced it expects to begin construction in early 2027 on the redevelopment of its Streetsville Community long-term care home at 1742 Bristol Road. West, near Creditview Road. The project, which still requires government approvals, will replace the current facility with a modern 256-bed home by late 2029.

The existing long-term care home currently has 118 licensed beds. Under the redevelopment, those beds will be replaced while another 138 new beds will be added, more than doubling the home’s capacity. The project carries an estimated price tag of $125 million.

The redevelopment is significant because long-term care beds remain in short supply across Ontario as the province’s population ages. According to the Ministry of Long-Term Care, 183 people are currently on the waiting list for the Streetsville Community alone, illustrating the demand for additional capacity in Mississauga.

Sienna President and CEO Nitin Jain said the project is intended to modernize the company’s long-term care facilities in the Greater Toronto Area while helping meet the growing needs of seniors.

“The redevelopments of Streetsville and Glen Rouge represent an exciting step forward for our Company and for long-term care in the GTA,” Jain said in a statement. “These large-scale projects will enhance the quality and scale of our platform, strengthen local economies through job creation, and provide modern, welcoming homes for residents, families and team members.”

The Mississauga redevelopment follows Sienna’s previously announced $250-million Glen Rouge project in Toronto, which will create a 448-bed long-term care home expected to open in 2030.

The Streetsville project has been on the province’s radar for several years. In 2021, Ontario announced approval for the redevelopment as part of its broader strategy to replace older long-term care homes and build thousands of new and upgraded beds across the province.

Construction in Mississauga is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2027, with the new long-term care home slated for completion in late 2029, pending final approvals.
