A 125-unit senior apartment building is finally moving ahead after years of plan revisions.
The building was approved for a piece of vacant land at 7211 and 7233 Airport Rd., south of Morning Star Drive.
It will include 125 rental units and ground floor retail space, according to the report to council.
Mayor Carolyn Parrish said they have been working on getting something built on the property since 2014 when she was the councillor for the area. She was pleased the proposal is moving forward.
“It’s a fantastic project for the area,” said Parrish at the Jan. 15 City of Mississauga council meeting.

An application in 2018 proposed a five-storey ‘active lifestyle’ residential condominium building with 119 units. A resubmission in 2021 envisioned a six-storey “senior’s living” residential building with 128 total residential units, including 10 two-bedroom, and 118 one-bedroom units.

The were delays after a public meeting in the spring of 2022. The final application has minor revisions to the proposal including removing the proposed access from Collett Road, more restoration planting and landscaping and reconfiguring the waste storage and loading areas.

The development makes use of “under-utilized” land near community services and transit, the staff planning report stated.

From around 1860 to 2000, there were farm homes on the land. The buildings were demolished in 2000 and have since remained vacant.
The proposal is well designed and is compatible with the Malton neighbourhood, staff said.
The project was approved at the Jan. 15 City of Mississauga council meeting.
