An early morning, single-vehicle crash on Highway 403 has claimed the life of one person in Mississauga.

The crash happened in the area of the westbound Highway 403 split with Highway 407 near Winston Churchill at 1:16 a.m. on Tuesday (May 9), said Mississauga OPP spokesperson Constable Sami Nasr.

The vehicle collided with a highway guide rail at a high speed and a fire started immediately, said Nasr.

“By the time first responders got to the location, the entire vehicle was consumed by fire,” said OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt in a tweet.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet identified the victim.

All lanes were closed including the onramp to Highway 407 westbound — this ramp remained closed as of around 8 a.m. for repairs.

The other lanes reopened around 6 a.m.

Anyone who may have witnessed or have dash cam video of the incident is being asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
