Some 1.7 million travellers are expected to use Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga during the upcoming March break period, around 400,000 more than last year.

The first influx of those passengers will pass through Canada’s biggest and busiest airport on Thursday, Pearson officials said this week as they ramp up for “one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.”

March break runs March 16-20, but the spring break travel period is considered to kick off March 12 and continue until March 22.

Peak travel days during the upcoming break will see as many as 163,774 daily travellers at Pearson, the airport added.

Pearson welcomed 1.3 million travellers during last year’s spring vacation week and 1.27 million during the 2024 March break.

Once again, travellers can visit the Toronto Pearson Airport website or Canada Border Services Agency and Canadian Air Transport Security Authority sites for March break information and tips that include:

  • What you can and can’t pack.
  • What you’re allowed to bring back into Canada when travelling internationally.
  • Ways to move through the airport more efficiently.

Last year, Toronto Pearson officials said all March break travellers combined brought more than one million pieces of luggage through the airport during the 10-day travel/break period. That was up from 880,000 during the 2024 break.

Historically, according to airport officials, the first weekend of the break and last couple of days of the vacation week are the busiest for travel, with airport activity mid-week somewhat quieter.
