Will Halton be the next region in lockdown? Here’s what Burlington’s mayor had to say

With Toronto and Peel in lockdown due to the rising cases of COVID-19, the question of whether Halton will be next in line remains a concern among residents.
While Halton’s numbers still remain on the lower side in comparison to nearby regions, provincial data reported today (Nov. 26), indicated there were 101 new cases.
During an interview with inhalton.com‘s Khaled Iwamura, Meed Ward discussed the possibility of the region entering a lockdown.
“If we don’t get a handle on community spread, then yes, we will; of course we will because lockdown results from the health indicators and right now, our health indicators are still pretty good,” said Meed Ward.
According to the mayor, numbers are “solidly in the red zone” but not at the “threshold of lockdown.”
“We’re starting to trend down,” confirmed Meed Ward in the interview.

“It’s really hard to know where you are because each day is a little different,” she said, adding that there was a slight discrepancy in yesterday’s (Nov. 25) data.
Due to this “glitch,” Meed Ward encourages people to look at the week at a glance, which will provide a better picture of whether numbers are moving up or down.
Yesterday (Nov. 26), the province reported seven new COVID-19 cases in the City of Burlington, which Meed Ward described as a “nice low number” compared to where the city has previously been amid the pandemic.
While Meed Ward confirmed that numbers are in fact “coming down,” she emphasized her concerns about whether these numbers will hold up past Black Friday and Christmas.
According to Meed Ward, the region’s Medical Officer of Health recently shared at a regional meeting that the biggest source of spread is in households as well as social gatherings.
“She issued strong recommendations weeks ago that people should limit their contact to anybody they don’t live with,” said Meed Ward.
“We have been repeating that message as often as we can, so please, stay six feet away from anybody you don’t live with and really, you shouldn’t be dining in a restaurant with anyone you don’t live with,” she concluded.
