A suspected prowler is being sought after a rash of break and enters in Burlington and Halton police are asking the public to help identify him.

A suspected prowler is being sought after a rash of break and enters in Burlington and Halton police are asking the public to help identify him.

The incidents took place from Dec. 3 between 6:30 p.m. to Dec. 4 at 6 a.m.

At least six garages have been broken into by a lone male who’s been stealing bikes and other miscellaneous items from garages and vehicles, investigators allege, plus trying the front doors of two homes in the 5000 block of Lakeshore Rd.

That’s in the city’s southeast end.

The same suspect is also believed to have broken into numerous unlocked cars in the same area.

Video footage from several homes is being used in the investigation and police are asking the public to take a look.

The suspect is described as white, in his early 20’s with a thin build. He stands 5-foot-7 to 6-feet and was wearing a touque, light checkered winter coat and running shoes.

Police are reminding the public of the following prevention tips:

  • Ensure your unattended vehicle(s) are kept locked/secure.
  • Never leave personal identification or valuables in your vehicle.
  • Park in a well-lit and attended areas whenever possible.
  • Never leave spare keys in your vehicle.
  • If you have to leave valuables in your vehicle, lock them in your trunk.  Don’t tempt thieves by leaving packages or purses in plain view or on the seat.
  • Remove garage door openers, GPS navigation and cell phone devices & power cords from view when not in your vehicle.
  • Consider installing CCTV / Surveillance cameras which can capture the crime and aid in suspect identification.
  • Ensure homes and garages are locked when absent from the home or turning in for the night.
  • Immediately report suspicious activity to police.
