Town of Milton staff has received almost 200 street name nominations for the Street Name Bank over the last year.

Since Oct. 2020, a total of 192 nominations were submitted for consideration in naming streets and facilities in the Town of Milton.

A total of 72 out of these names meet the policy criteria and are being recommended for inclusion into the Street Name Bank subject to approval from Council.

At an upcoming council meeting, Town staff is set to discuss Milton’s process for naming new streets and is seeking approval of several additional proposed historical and commemorative names that comply with the evaluation criteria.

The Town’s revised policy would have three categories of approved street names that include historical, commemorative and themed names.

Street names that are approved by Council may be subject to further review by the Town’s emergency service partners. This is due to the fact that there is often a time-lapse between Council approval and street name assignment. There is also a possibility that conflicts may arise by the assignment of the same or similar street names in other Halton municipalities.

The proposed street names are set to be discussed at a council meeting on Oct. 25, 2021.
