The Town of Halton Hills is reminding residents to be cautious and protect their pets after receiving several reports of fox sightings.

According to the Town, the reports of the sightings were at the Scottsdale Farm trail boardwalk, located in the area of Eighth Ln. and Trafalgar Rd.

Residents are reminded that foxes have a natural fear of people and thus, tend to flee rather than fight. It’s important to never allow dogs to chase foxes and to never approach or feed them.

Additionally, residents are reminded to keep cats indoors if a fox is present.

“Make sure to keep pets leashed at all times when using local trails for the safety of you, your animals and other trail users,” said the Town on Twitter.

If approached by a fox, residents may wave their arms to make their silhouette appear large, make loud noises and toss pebbles in their direction to act as a deterrent.
