When you’re hungry, nothing beats a good ol’ rack of fall-off-the-bone ribs slathered in BBQ sauce. Fortunately for you, you don’t have to wait until Ribfest to sink your teeth into some sweet and savory pork products. Ribs are the perfect summer (and winter!) food and when it comes to impressive rib joints, this city’s got you covered.

Here’s a look at the top 5 places to get ribs in Mississauga.

5 – RD’s Southern BBQ

Located in what was formerly a Wendy’s along Derry and Hurontario, RD’s Southern BBQ specializes in Louisiana-style BBQ fused with Haitian recipes that date back to the late 1800s. Executive Chef Jean Rimple and Petra Dean are a husband and wife team who opened up their first location in Brampton and, due to their growing customer base, felt it was time to expand. RD’s is known for quite a few dishes and is the home of the baby back ribs. The meat is smoked up to 14 hours on-site and everything on the menu from the dry rubs to the sauces and corn bread is made in-house.

4 – All Star Wings and Ribs

Located in City Centre in the Parkside Village area is All Star Wings and Ribs. This place is pretty cool for the sports enthusiast, as they have tons of TVs that are perfect for anyone looking to catch a game. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone good and the meat was nice and tender. All that said, we would have preferred they not have drowned the meat in BBQ sauce. If you want near-perfect ribs, tell them to go a little easier on the sauce.

3 – Mario’s

Mario’s BBQ is located just south of Dundas on HWY 10 in the 24-Hour Shoppers plaza. They are known for their Portuguese chicken that’s grilled to perfection and they also have some incredible ribs (which makes sense, considering they’re a grill). The ribs were grilled on the BBQ, cut up and pan fried and doused in BBQ sauce before they hit my mouth and they were absolutely delicious!

2 – Brasas

Brasas is located in a plaza on the corner of Burnhamthorpe and Glen Erin and is known for being one of the best Portuguese chicken joints in town and the ribs are no different from the famed chicken. They’re cooked to perfection and are fall-off-the-bone tender. The BBQ sauce was very flavourful and the right amount was used so you could still enjoy the taste of the meat. There are about six seats, but it’s predominately a takeout place. From the first to the last bite, these ribs will get you ready for a good nap!

1 – Holy Smokez

Located in an unassuming strip plaza on Dundas between Tomken and Dixie is a unique place (especially for Mississauga) called Holy Smokez. It’s unique because we really haven’t seen many BBQ-style joints in the city. All the ribs and meat are not only barbequed, but cooked over indirect heat and smoked with wood for as long as 18 hours. I was salivating just reading the menu. The ribs were the most tender of any on this list. The meat itself was very moist and delicious and the BBQ sauce is legendary — this place truly knows what makes ribs great. The resto is a takeout joint that only has about six seats, so bring dinner home to the family. They will love you more for it.
