If you’ve been in a relationship for a while, dinner and movies become stock date night ideas.  Although delicious and entertaining, they do not have the ring of an exciting new adventure to conquer together. After countless trips to the restaurant and Cineplex, my boyfriend and I set out to find new and exciting activities to fill our date nights without leaving Mississauga.  If you’re looking to try something new for your next date, look no further.  Best part?  None of these activities will break your bank and you might unearth a new favorite date night activity!

5 – Laser Quest

Cost: $6.50-$11.50

Healthy competition can be good for a relationship, right?  Try putting that theory to the test and bust out your smack talk for laser tag.  Laser Quest is fun for two or for groups, so this is a great choice for a double date as well!  Grab your laser gun and head into the course and hunt down the other players.  If you’re like me though, you’ll just be trying not to die.  My first time out, I was mocked mercilessly for my negative score (how does that even happen?!) You can bring in your own food though, so pack a picnic and make some bets, like the loser pays for the next round.  Pro tip: Do some lunges beforehand; it’s a work out!

4 – Art Gallery of Mississauga

Cost: Free/Donation

This is the most low-key option on the list.  If you’re not feeling too adventurous, perhaps try a stroll through the AGM.  The Art Gallery of Mississauga is a public, not-for-profit gallery.  They offer tours, workshops, or you can just peruse on your own accord.  They have a permanent collection as well as regular exhibitions, and a list of intriguing ongoing events, such as Art of Yoga, where once a month you take part in a yoga session surrounded by art.  They also have a list of upcoming events, including an auction if you’re looking to jump-start your art collection.

2 – Sky Zone or Air Riderz trampoline park

Cost: $8 to $19

One of the best things about being a kid had to be jumping on my friend’s trampoline every day in the summer.  Now, being an adult in a big city with no backyard, that simple pleasure isn’t as attainable as it used to be.  Enter Sky Zone or Air Riderz.  Imagine a room full of trampolines, with walls made of trampolines enabling you to literally bounce off the walls.  Sound like a blast? If you’re feeling like being a big kid for your next date, this is the place to go.  Be sure to buy your tickets in advance, though!  Sky Zone is as popular as it is exciting.

2. Kariya Park

Cost: Free

Many people know about Kariya Park that lies calmly in Mississauga’s City Centre core. Kariya park was officially opened in 1992 in Mississauga, honouring the eleventh anniversary of our twin-city relationship with Kariya City in Japan. Grab a mango shake from Spring Rolls, which is en route to the park, sit back and enjoy watching turtles sunbathe, fish swim, couples shooting engagement photos and cosplayer all over the park on weekends.

1 – Scooter’s Roller Palace

Cost: $8-$13

Located on Royal Windsor Drive is Scooter’s Roller Palace.  If you’re looking for a fun way to get active together, this is for you.  Strap on a pair of roller skates and dance with your beau in their retro throwback arena.  From the vintage track lighting to the disco balls, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into 1975, which is when this iconic piece of Mississauga originally opened their doors.  Worried about falling on your face?  On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can take lessons, followed by a skate (although falling down is half the fun.)  You can attend adult only skates, if you’re looking to avoid the little ones on your date and night owls can even attend a late-night skate once a month that runs until 3am.  The arena isn’t licensed, which offers you a built-in excuse to ask for date number two.

I never understood the idea of going to the movies on a first date. Sitting in silence for two hours doesn’t exactly help you get to know the other person.
