The birthday of the United States of America is also wrapped around this weekend, and there is a place for Americans who reside in the Hamilton area to celebrate it together.

Even if it means celebrating the Fourth of July on July 3. On Sunday, the Hamilton-Burlington chapter of Democrats Abroad is holding a barbecue picnic in Burlington to mark Independence Day. The BYOP (Bring Your Own Plate) gathering of “fellow Americans, families and friends from Hamilton, Burlington, and Oakville” will be held at 1 p.m. at a private home, with parking available at the Presbyterian Church (2138 Brant St.).

“Dems Abroad will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs, water and lemonade,” a notice reads. Please bring a dish to share with everyone for the buffet and any other beverages you might like to have (no glass bottles please). The pool will be open, so feel free to bring your swimsuits and towels. We’ll be playing cornhole in the yard.”

Democrats Abroad is the Democratic Party arm for Americans living outside the United States, who are eligible to vote. The southern neighbour of Canada is entering the midterm elections cycle this fall.

Organizers say those interested in attending will need to RSVP, since the event is at a private home. That can be done through democratsabroad.org. The point person for further information about the event is David Mivasair (604-781-7839; [email protected])
