Students escape school bus fire north of Brampton

Students and a driver escaped a school bus fire on Thursday morning.

Emegency crews responded to the fire on Innis Lake Road in Caledon East, the Ontario Provincial Police said on X around 8:30 a.m.

Police said that all students and the driver evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

There were 44 high school students were onboard, an OPP spokesperson told INsauga.com.

At this time, the fire is deemed non-suspicious, and appears to have been a mechanical fire, the spokesperson said.

Innis Lake Road was closed between Old Church Road and Atchison Drive. In an update at 2:22 p.m., the OPP said the road had fully reopened.

Police asked drivers to use alternate routes.
