Although Joseph Brant Hospital doesn’t rely on Rogers for its communication network, the Burlington facility is still ensuring staff and physicians can be reached.

The Rogers outage of Friday, July 8, knocked out internet and mobile service for millions of Canadians but, being in Burlington, they are serviced by Cogeco.

“Patient care continues at Joseph Brant Hospital,” said a JBH spokesperson late Friday afternoon. “The current outage has impacted communication with some JBH staff and physicians who rely on Rogers’ cellular or internet providers, and well as patients who rely on Rogers and are therefore unable to connect for their scheduled virtual medical appointment.

“We have taken steps to minimize any potential impact to care due to the loss of connectivity, including contacting on-call physicians to ensure they are available to respond, as well as tracking any virtual appointments that will need to be rescheduled if the patient is unable to attend.”

Elsewhere, the City of Burlington announced it was lessening enforcement of parking lots in the downtown core, as many payment options like debit and credit cards were affected.

Halton police acknowledged some people might have difficulty calling 9-1-1 in an emergency and might have to find a landline to do so.
