A new online survey allows Oakville residents to share their feedback on the design of the rainbow crosswalk or provide input on other inclusion initiatives.

The Town of Oakville is planning to update the rainbow crosswalk located at Kerr St. and Lakeshore Rd. in June and asking the community to provide suggestions on how they could improve it.

Local residents are also being invited to participate in a short online survey where they can share ways the town can better show allyship and support for all members of the community.

The five-minute online survey, available here, is anonymous and confidential and will remain open until March 15, 2023.

“Feedback will help the town better understand what it can do to support belonging in our community,” said the town. “Community participation is also welcomed on what more the town can do to demonstrate inclusion for the community in the coming years.”

The town has partnered with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion to develop a multi-year inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility plan.

In addition to the online survey, the town is conducting interviews and focus groups with 2SLGBTQIA+ community organizations and youth groups. 2SLGBTQIA+ stands for two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and additional sexual orientations and gender identities.

Residents can also receive the survey in an alternate format. For more information, call 905-845-6601 ext. 3689, email [email protected] or fill out the town’s accessible online feedback form.
