For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 140 characters:

An addicting combination of indie-infused guitar and vocal melodies, electronically-charged synth leads and a driving drum backbone.

Ten years from now musically you’ll be…

In a perfect world, playing the music we love to play to people all over the world. We’ve got a tonne of countries and venues on our musical bucket lists that we’d love to check off.

If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?

Though we all have different tastes in music, we would all love to open for Brand New. They’ve been the benchmark band that we’ve looked to time and time again for inspiration, so meeting and playing music on the same stage as them would be proof that we’re doing something right.

So, what’s your favourite thing to do when you aren’t doing your music?

Eat, and drink coffee in between or during eating. We would pretty much be nothing without coffee and snacks.

What is your Mississauga connection?

All three of us grew up in Mississauga together. Josh and Matthew met in elementary school, and we all met James in high school.

What’s your favourite place in Mississauga to perform and why?

The Masonic lodge in Streetsville. There is no better venue to pack a bunch of sweaty Mississauga kids in and just play loud. Not to mention so many of the acts that we grew up loving have played there. It’s crazy seeing videos of bands like Alexis on fire playing the same stage we’ve played a few times.

Where do you draw inspiration from when creating music and what’s your favourite part about the process?

The inspiration behind pretty much all of our stuff has come from riffs that we’ve played during practice or even we’ve all been hanging out. Once they get stuck in our heads, the whole concept sort of grows from there. The process as a whole is pretty amazing, to create something out of what was before just an idea. My (Josh) favorite part personally is watching the tracks grow and mature not only on their own, but as a collective of tracks. Lyrics are typically what get written last, but they somehow always mesh cohesively from song to song.

Who are your favourite musicians? Why?

Dave Grohl, Jack White, Josh Homme; all of these guys are super talented at their craft and inspire us to do what we do best. Dave also has an unhealthy coffee obsession that we all love and can relate to. Jack White is one of the most creative musicians and a master at blending different genres. Homme’s work with Queens of the Stone Age is just unreal. All these guys churn out albums and singles that people will listen to for years.

What are five things your band can’t live without?

1 – Tremendous
2 – Music – popular bands, and the bands that we get to play with
3 – Coffee
4 – Pro Tools
5 – All of the plug-ins we use to make our synth sounds

What’s the coolest gig you ever did? Why?

The third time we played the Masonic lodge, we had a big crowd, a lot of people dancing and quite possibly turned that basement into a steam room. The energy that night was incredible, and when the energy is that high it keeps us on our toes.

Anything you want to plug?

We have a new CD coming out in early August. It will be available on iTunes, Bandcamp, and physical prints. Pre-order it at dandalyband.ca and receive a special bonus digital download pack with it! We also are in the running for 102.1 The Edge’s contest “The Next Big Thing”, so send us a vote!
